A Florida man is facing charges after he allegedly left his girlfriend's six-year-old daughter in a hot car.

According to PEOPLE, 24-year-old Markise Outing was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child in connection to the death of his girlfriend's six-year-old daughter.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Department said Outing brought the 6-year-old girl to a local fire station on May 20. The girl, who was unconscious and not breathing, was taken to a local hospital, where doctors found her body temperature to be dangerously high. She was pronounced dead later that night.

According to the sheriff's department, Outing initially told deputies that the girl overheated while playing in the park. However, an investigation determined that Outing picked the 6-year-old girl up from school and left her in a locked car for several hours at his place of work.

The car's temperature rose to roughly 115 degrees.

An autopsy stated the girl died from extreme heat. Police said they are still waiting for results from a toxicology report.
