A family is seeking answers in the disappearance of a Black graduate of Cornell University.

23-year-old Jahnay Bryan was last seen near West 8th Street in Los Angeles on October 16, according to an Ebony Alert issued by the Los Angeles Police Department last month.

“She had just graduated from Cornell and had all these ambitions, it is incredibly unlike her to just completely go off the grid,” Bryan's sister, Jahque Bryan-Gooden, told News Nation this month.

Jahque said her sister had previously spoken about being afraid of "going missing."

"Like, being a Black girl and getting trafficked, or someone kidnapping her, or her going missing," Jahque said of her sister's "biggest fear." "She had vividly shared to a friend, like, ‘If something ever happens to me, find me.’"

On the day of her disappearance, Jahnay reportedly emailed her ex-boyfriend about getting married.

“I think we should get married, and I think we should work in industry. I was just in contract with the Commissioner of the Department of Water Management in a city. It’s a brilliant idea," the email reads, per News Nation.

"It wasn’t even grammatically correct,” Jahque said of the email. “And so that was definitely like, ‘Okay, what’s happening here?’ You know? But I don’t think that someone else would have had her email.”

After graduating from Cornell University, Jahnay moved to her homestate of Pennsylvania. It's unclear how she ended up in LA. Jahnay had reportedly lost touch with her loved ones when she moved. She sent her ex-boyfriend an email in August, informing him that she was relocating.

"Gone for the last few months, back moving to a new city Monday. Bye," Jahnay reportedly wrote.

Jahque said the investigation into her sister's disappearance has left her "frustrated." She claimed that at least nine people have told her that they've seen Jahnay.

An LAPD spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that there were no updates on the investigation earlier this month. The missing woman's family is working with the Black and Missing Foundation to launch a community search event to find Jahnay.

Police have described Jahnay as a Black female with black hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. It's unclear what she was wearing on the day of her disappearance.
